COURSE DESCRIPTION

課程簡介

Part one of a two-semester course designed to provide an introduction to the grammar, syntax, and translation of biblical Hebrew. It provides the foundation for proper exegetical study of the Hebrew Old Testament, particularly in a ministerial context. The first semester focuses on the rudiments of Hebrew and beginning translation and vocalization.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

課程目的

Upon completion of this two-semester course the student will have built a reasonable, but incomplete, foundation for the exegesis of the Hebrew Bible. These rudimentary skills will provide a basic framework for an understanding of the exegetical task and the tools used in its performance. To show competence, the student is expected to:

  1. Pronounce Hebrew words and read Hebrew sentences with reasonable fluency.
  2. Understand and demonstrate basic knowledge of Hebrew grammar.
  3. Understand basic principles of syntax in readiness for second semester work.
  4. Demonstrate mastery of basic Hebrew vocabulary.
  5. Appreciate the need for ongoing study of the Hebrew Old Testament.
